Tips for a Stress-Free Trip to the Dentist
Do you get nervous before visiting the dentist? Ease your anxiety with these helpful tips!
1. Let your dental staff know you experience anxiety
We often feel uncomfortable and insecure about sharing fears with others. Dental anxiety is more common than you may think. Believe it or not, but dentists, hygienists and front-of-house staff are trained to provide excellent care for clients who experience nervousness or anxiousness at the dentist. Give us a heads up; we will help you feel as comfortable as possible at your visit.
2. Explore the benefits of essential oils
Essential oils have amazing therapeutic properties. Specifically, lavender is a great essential oil known for its relaxation and calming effects. Feeling like your nervous system is in overdrive? Lavender oil helps restore balance in the nervous system creating a sense of calm. Use an essential oil diffuser in your home or car before visiting us. Don’t have time? Simply combine some coconut oil and a few drops of lavender oil on your wrists and behind your ears before coming into the office.
3. Use visualization and deep breathing techniques
Schedule some relaxation or down time before coming to the dentist. Listen to some calming music or read a book while waiting for your appointment. Try this deep breathing exercise if you are feeling overwhelmed. Simply inhale deeply with your eyes closed and picture a light travelling up the front of your body from your toes to your head. Exhale deeply picturing the light travelling the backside of the body going from head to your toes. Repeat.
4. Take supportive supplements
Supplement needs are different for every person. Speak to a nutritionist who can help you uncover supplement supports tailored to your individual needs.
