Root canal. These are two words that strike fear in the heart of almost anyone.

There’s still a belief that a root canal is one of the most painful dental procedures you can go through. We’re here to tell you that it’s not true. Today, a root canal isn’t a painful procedure: it resolves the pain you experience before you need one.

The trick, however, is to avoid the point where you need an emergency root canal in the first place. And to do that, you need to follow the following instructions.

How to Avoid an Emergency Root Canal

If one of your life goals is to avoid ever needing an emergency root canal, then there’s one thing you should know: it’s possible to achieve.

A root canal is needed when the pulp of your tooth becomes infected and inflamed. The conditions that cause the need for a root canal don’t happen overnight. It usually takes a long period of neglect to reach a point where a root canal is necessary.

Going to the dentist twice a year is probably the best way to prevent a root canal procedure. Your dentist will catch the early signs of decay and infection at one of those visits. Then, you and your dentist can work together to create a nsolution to tooth decay.

You should also go to the dentist when you experience pain, swelling, and inflammation. These are symptoms of pulp infection or a serious injury to your tooth.

If you try to chew through the pain, then you are at severe risk of needing an emergency root canal. Plus, you’ll be in much more pain for a longer period before the treatment.

Damaged Teeth are Painful – Root Canals Help

We understand root canals as being very painful. When you know what the procedure involves, you would probably agree.

In reality, infected tooth pulp (which is why you need a root canal) is far more painful. In 2006, over 400,000 people were in so much tooth-related pain that they went to the emergency room. What they really needed to do is go to the dentist, and they should have gone as soon as their tooth started hunting.

Today, the combination of great anaesthetic and advanced endodontic treatments means you probably won’t feel much at all during your root canal procedure. You may be sore afterwards, but if you had a serious infection, it may even feel like a relief after one or two days.
